Working out has been going much better than planned. I’ve been eating better and not bitching about it at all. Actually, I’m raving. I feel tons better after just 3 weeks at the gym. I’m mostly running. I’ve worked up to a 1.5mi run, which seems laughable by athletic standards, but is ginormous improvement for me. Remember my previous post about workout tunes? So far I’ve settled on lots of 90′s rock (Pumpkins, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, etc.) and Putumayo “groove” based music. Ulysses56, a user at mininova.org, has been seeding shitloads of the Putumayo stuff. Grab it while you can. I’m particularly fond of African Groove. Makes me feel like I’m running through the jungle. Here’s a comic from xkcd that may or may not have helped me motivate to get my ass to the gym every other day.

I have nothing to post about. No, really, I don’t. I might attempt a review of some of my new gear soon, but does anyone really need to hear me pontificate about a consumer electronic device? I thought not. Instead, here are two links for you. No, you may not have three. Don’t you forget who’s running the show here. When I say two, I mean it.

Take it with a small cube of sodium chloride, but an unofficial rumor is making it’s way round the music scene:

Re-he-heally???
I may have to reconsider my anti-hippiejambandfestival platform on account of this kick ass lineup.
That is all.

I’m taking a brief holiday from work. The next four days will (i hope…) be filled with relaxation and live music. I’ll try to crank out a few posts as well. See you then!

Robert Anton Wilson, along with Robert Shea, co-authored the book that set my mind ablaze when I was 15. The Illuminatus! Trilogy is a wild, psychedelic romp through space, fnord and time. I’m hesitant to recommend it to anyone lest they go completely batshit crazy.
RAW died last night. I knew he was sick, and thanks in large part to a boingboing post, his last days were comfortable.
RAW, we hardly knew you. But your writing inspired me. Thanks.
From Wikipedia:
Robert Anton Wilson or RAW (January 18, 1932 – January 11, 2007) was a prolific American novelist, fnord, essayist, philosopher, psychologist, futurologist, anarchist, and conspiracy theory researcher.
His writing, which often shows a sense of humor and optimism, is described by him as an “attempt to break down conditioned associations–to look at the world in a new way, with many models recognized as models (maps) and no one model elevated to the Truth.” agnosticism, not agnosticism about God alone, but agnosticism about everything.”

I dragged my fat ass out of the house and joined a gym today. And I bought shiny new shoes. I’m planning on going after work a few days a week to cycle and run. My social awkwardness will not be coming in handy, so I plan on using this time to listen to my iPod. Any suggestions for good, steady tempo music? Let me know in zee comments, please.

Cyrus had a quick surgery today, to alleviate a hematoma in his ear. My boy is a great patient, though. Doc said he was a pleasure to work on. And cute, too. We picked him up after a few hours, and now he looks like this:

A brief listing of musical concerts I just might be attending soon.
AND
- Yonder Mountain String Band @ Lifestyle Communities Pavilion – Columbus, OH 2007.02.23. You know I love YMSB. Lovely Ohio got shafted on the last tour, so we’re thrilled to have a quick 2 show run in late February. This will be our, umm… 25th show? Might be more or less, I’ll have to figure that out someday. Anywho, fuck yeah for Yonder shows.
Hopefully we’ll see some of you out! Here’s a quick Thile solo just so you know what you’ll be missing…

Meatloaf.
Yeah, meatloaf.
No, not that one.
This one.
It’s cooking right now, and boy howdy does it smell delicious. My recipe? Well, it’s based on AB’s, but with a few modifications. First and foremost, panko breadcrumbs. Panko takes the texture of the loaf from dense and greasy to light and airy. (Don’t worry, the fat is still there…) My seasoning mixture is a melange of goodness, with cracked black pepper, TJ’s 21 seasoning salute, toasted cayenne, A-1 (you heard me…) and a bit of BBQ sauce. I added mushrooms to the sweated veggie mix this time. Oh, and F the bell pepper. You don;t really need it. But if I had one, I’d probably use it.
The AB tips to keep in mind are not overmixing (hands are the best tool for the job) and baking on a sheet pan rather than in a loaf pan. I just use the same cast iron skillet I used for the veggies. I also use the “bird roasting BTU control trick” whereby I roast at 425 for 7 minutes before finishing out at 350 for a nice crust.
Man, you should be here right now.

I’ve been saying John McCain is a republican pied piper for some time now. Anyone who thinks he’s a left leaner, or even a thinking mans republican, is kidding themselves. Keith Olbermann agrees with me, and runs down a list of the Senators flip floppery.
