Holiday Audio Expolsion

Oh yeah, it;s that time of year.  I’ve been quietly digging out last years holiday music, and torrenting like mad for this year.  Here’s a few picks for you.  Most of this is not CC license so be warned: thar be pirating below.  Gyar.

  • The Christmas Massacre of Charlie Brown – DJ John.  An awesome mash up for Christmas.  The break in the middle is super sweet.
  • Here’s a torrent for Ultra-Lounge’s Christmas Cocktails vol. 1 & 2.  Great old exotica from the likes of Jimmy McGriff, Peggy Lee and Nancy Wilson.  This is on permanent rotation for the next month.  There’s plenty of seeders right now, so hop on!
  • And of course, the best jazz piano album I’ve ever heard.  I listen to this in June it’s so damn good.  Vince and the boys bring the pain with It’s Christmas, Charlie Brown!
  • This blog has a bunch of weird, great music, but uses some oddball download site to get to it all.  If anyone figures this out, let me know, K?

I’m working on making my annual xmas mix disc.  I’ll torrent it when it’s complete for all you fun loving folks out there.

Christmas in Columbus

Yesterday was damn near perfect.  I slept until noon, made a kick ass potato hash with Jeff’s smoked turkey leg playing the role of pancetta.  Heavy winds led to a power outage, so we had some nice candlelight time.  Then off to see a co-worker, Scott Henning, preform with the CSO’s Holiday Pops choir.  A great show at a beautiful old theater.  We saw a wonderful mix of music, vocal and instrumental, with a bit o’ ballet thrown in for measure.  And Santa ended up coming at the last minute!  Conductor Ronald J. Jenkins was given an OSU Santa hat from the big man himself, and then Klaus got a chance to conduct.  Tres fromage, tres awesome.  We grabbed Scott and headed to the Burgundy Room in the Short North for some tapas and a few bottles of vin.  The calamari were a bit chewy, but served with a kick ass acidic Thai sauce.  We also tried a curried shrimp and basmati dish with caramelized onions.  Delicious.  Succulent shrimp, cooked to perfection.  The curry alone would have been meh, but the addition of the sweet onions really made this dish a winner.  I’ll be back to sample more of the food soon.  Wine?  We had two California bottles, the first was the 2004 Two Angels Petite Sirah.  From an AVA I’m not familiar with came this rich, spot on Petite Sirah.  I’ve got to find some of this stuff for home.  It’s Christmas in Columbus.  Cheers!!

Not bad for the first day of December.

Happy Holidays, all.

Clarity Check

I just want to remind everyone that right up ther at the top of your page is a title. It’s the title of this blog. It’s called InFrequently @ Best. I call it that because I blog Infrequently, at best. Hence the lack of recent post-age. So there.

I Wanna Go Back In Time

Don’t you?  Join me then, as I recap the missing week of posts.

  • Yep, OSU won.  I was a little upsaet that Columbus didn’t start more fires, or have a few effigies or something.  I thought these guys were pros.  Maybe the National Championship will motivate my fair city to commit more arson.  Time will tell.
  • We packed up the dogs and headed to NY for Thanksgiving.  I’ll try to keep this brief.  I love my family.  2birds.  Much Dogfish Head.  It was my birthday.  It was 65 degrees in November.  I ate 7 pieces of assorted pies (a personal record).  Xbox 360 was out of order, so my brother in law Jeff and I compensated with a bottle of Absolut.  Dog ran a way.  We found dog.  We drove home.
  • I went straight from work to pick up the rental for the drive.  I went to work immediatly after dropping the rental off.  Then I worked 7 days straight.  I was tired.
  • I’ve been loading up on xmas music.  More on that later.
  • We put our xmas tree up.  Pics to come soon.
  • Speaking of pics, Jeff spotted me his digital SLR for a few weeks.  I’m having a blast and will share soon.

I’ve honestly been too busy at work to do much of anything lately.  I had my first day of rest yesterday, so expect posts all day long today & tomorrow.
